Construction: What can YOU do for ME?

What can Construction do to help?

What can Construction do to help?

Now I won’t say that I am one of the most experienced Runescape players out there because I’d be lying – but being a player that gets the lingo of Runescape, XP, Levels and what-not…I’ve come to realize something. Construction doesn’t play an extensive role within the game. I’m not saying its useless per se, but I think it needs a functionality update.

There sure is quite a lot you can do with the skill, but most of it is vanity based – it’s all about looks and boasting. Even then, who really gets to see your Player Owned House on a daily or even weekly basis? Not many!

Yes, I know that Construction has Gilded Altars, Telescopes for star hunting, Armour repair stands and maybe the odd portal or two… but is that enough? There are so many reasons to train other skills (bar firemaking) and Construction is the one that I constantly overlook and forget to train… something needs to be done!

Jagex may think that attaching the Construction skill to Dungeoneering and Effigies would give us more reasons to train it but I don’t think it does, to be honest. There has to be something about the Construction skill that either allows you to benefit highly and something that cannot be used by others. If Jagex has any trouble sorting out ideas for Construction, here are a few that I thought up within 5 minutes:

  • The ability to construct a very high level Agility course inside your POH
  • Ability to build Teleport portals that cannot be cast with a normal spellbook
  • A dungeon containing specific slayer monsters that you can train on
  • A spot that allows you to create a rock up to Runite (Only one, hopping worlds doesn’t help)
  • A tree you can actually cut
  • A bank deposit box
  • Ability to construct a farming patch

Now I know some of these ideas may have their issues, but I thought of them quite quickly. The point I’m trying to make is that with the money attached to training Construction, it should be rewarding in some way, it’s expensive for little to no reasons.

I want to know your opinion – do you think the same way I do? More suggestions? Let me know in the comments box :)

Water-balloons and Elite Clue Scrolls (No update day)!

SE Water-balloon attack

This may be the most interesting thing I have ever done on Runescape. Put aside trying out the weirdest concept in the world (dungeoneering) and you have a clan-wide water-balloon fight! Jazzy and Mandy the two Administrators of SE were leading ‘Team Goats’ while I was having fun with my gold team capes leading team kangaroo *go figure*

Go Kangaroos, Go!!!!

Go Kangaroos, Go!!!!

It was a fun battle but sadly we got completely annihilated by the good ol’ goats. We’ll get revenge next time, you two!

The Clue Scroll fiasco

It looks to me like Jagex have released another hint to their patented clue scroll update which should be released sometime tomorrow (Wednesday is update day, right?) and it looks to me like it has absolutely nothing to do with Clue Scrolls. Anyone sensing the following from Jagex?

Hello fellow Runescapeians. It seems that Guthix has not found enough balance within this month and has decided to completely forget about Clue Scrolls for now. In return for your membership payment we have released a 3-minute abstract quest with a 403gp reward. Classy! Enjoy the update just as much as we did making money off it!

Always blaming Guthix. Typical! Oh well, one can only dream.

Possible Update on Elite Treasure Trails?

I was checking out Runescape’s official Facebook page and they noted that this is coming this week:

Runescape's possible new elite puzzles for clue scrolls?

Runescape's possible new elite puzzles for clue scrolls?

The update should come tomorrow if it goes according to their normal update schedule. It will be very interesting to see how this pans out along with all of the items the update will inject into the economy. Fun stuff!

Dungeoneering Update – Unexpected?

In terms of an update, this is definitely a little bit more than I originally expected from Jagex. I never thought that a decent update could be made out of this Dungeoneering skill, but hey, it isn’t so bad after all.

Does it make Dungeoneering any better of a skill for me to train? Maybe, maybe not. The new resource dungeons are a great addition to the skill, boasting rooms with kingly impling spawns, runite ore mining spots (three of them to be exact!), herb spawns on the floor and much more!

This guy ain't friendly.

This guy ain't friendly.

One thing that I wasn’t expecting however, whether it be stupid of me or not… was that I thought Jagex would make “resource dungeons” with the same concept of Dungeoneering in mind as well – but it seems to me now that these resource dungeons are more of a reward.

I would have definitely expected before the update that these resource dungeons would be kept to your own character, i.e. not having to share the dungeon with other people. Upon thinking about it properly and seeing the resources available it only made sense that these dungeons were publicly available rather than private for everyone: it would have destroyed the economy.

I did snatch a few shiny runite ores from the new place, so I’m not complaining. I did expect a higher Dungeoneering level to mine that ore, but that’s beside the point.

Ores galore!

Ores galore!

After playing a few games of Dungeoneering yesterday I’ve come to appreciate the construction spot – I need to explore it a little bit more but from what I’ve seen so far it has great potential. Being able to create an altar is awesome, and the group gatestone feature is beyond useful.

The class rings are still being tried out by myself, I’ve been messing around with the skiller ring and it seems to be working wonders in terms of finding resources. I like the idea that you use tokens to upgrade your level, gives all the more reason to train the skill.

Overall, I think Jagex pulled this one off pretty well by giving us a reason to train this skill now (or more of them, perhaps?). Now it’s time to see how they do with the big feared Clue Scroll update; but we shall discuss that one when the time comes ;)

PS: has anyone noticed that Daemonheim is excessively larger than before?

Runescape’s official game client can be improved!

As many of us may have already tried in the past, the Runescape client that was provided by Jagex prior to the current version was nothing more than a featureless browser that did nothing but browse RuneScape’s main website which was not very useful at all, even for lower memory machines.

I’ve been using the newer official client now instead of Swiftkit for a while and I can safely say that it is a lot better – it does exactly what I want it to do; play Runescape quickly and easily. The good thing about this Windows-only client that is being used now is that it almost completely eliminates issues with Java from peoples’ computers. This program comes with Java and some other necessary files already built into it!

Runescape's latest official client

Runescape's latest official client

I believe that this client is heading the right way – they do need a few extras that would make game play within it a little bit more bearable such as a screenshot manager and a hiscores look-up tool. That was essentially all I ever used SwiftKit for… if Jagex staff can provide those two things, they would probably gain a much more significant user base for this client which I believe is something they should hold as a priority.

There has been talk about an upcoming Runescape client, however I’m not sure if this is exactly what they were talking about. Needless to say, the client does its job better than its predecessor – which is a good thing. But what other features can be moved into the client without compromising the simplicity of it?
