JaGeX and Clans

As you may already know, JaGex, the owners of Runescape have released a new update which concentrates on the clan community within the game. This was an update that was widely looked forward to and it most certainly did not disappoint… much.

Though JaGeX did make a massive step forward taking the risk in providing free tools to assist users to make Runescape clans, they made a few mistakes that are costing the clan community more than they are giving.

I was not amused that this update changed the face of what a clan is in Runescape. Many people see it as either a ‘free cape ride’, or a ‘group of randoms that pk together’. Though this is all well and good, most of these ‘clans’ serve the same purpose as a Clan Chat always did… a chat.

My gripe with this change is that players who are new to the clan world are directly exposed to a mess of free capes and wannabes. I thought being in a clan was about honour, experience and leadership – now that is all changing.

The quality of clans needs to step up, and JaGeX was probably better off making it more difficult to run a clan because overall, you get better quality and a stronger community. Now we must deal with the consequences of making a Runescape clan a 5-minute job.

Rock Climbing Boots at 75k – No Rollback – Information

I’ve taken some time out of my normal day of studying to think further about the logic behind Jagex inflating the price of all Climbing Boots around Runescape to 75k GP each, causing havok across all of Runescape and ultimately deciding not to roll it back.

After thinking for a very long time I simply could not come up with a valid reason why climbing boots should be 75k, they do not fit in with their competitors – strength and power amulets, which are 70k cheaper and have better stats. The alch price of them in the lightest of words is incompetent and completely out of line with the rest of its competitors – including dragon boots!

Runescape’s latest batch of updates: What needs fixing?

I thought I’d take the time to share my thoughts that I have posted around on other sites so that I can get some more people reading about this. It has never been really the case that I have been irritated by Runescape’s updates, but at the moment I am; and here’s why!

BEFORE YOU READ: I am not complaining about the emotes, I think that Jagex did a fantastic job on all of them. So don’t bring that up! :P

Dear Jagex,

I find it painfully funny that in a single week you’ve managed to make so many players of your beloved game confused and angry about the updates you make.

Jagex, who’s decision was it to make Skill capes (You know, the things we work REALLY hard for) ugly and short, with the icons nice and pixelated? We don’t shop at bon marche… Please fix.

Jagex, who’s idea was it to shave the outline off pretty much every item to make them look utterly hideous? We aren’t blind. Please fix.

Jagex, who’s choice was it to add more complication to an already glitched and lacking graphics engine that has DirectX which should look good but coincidently doesn’t at all. Please fix.

Jagex, who’s idea completely glitched up player owned houses (which you still wont fix) and made them look like flashing muddy wonderlands? Please fix.

I do know how much effort goes into constructing new updates and content for us to use, but what I don’t understand is why you would let massive bugs and graphical glitches that just don’t look right occur mindlessly. THREE UPDATES later and they still aren’t fixed, what now? Are you cutting down on QA testers? There’s gotta be something behind this and I’m determined to find out. I don’t know if you have appointed a new game content manager as a 5-year-old child or a chimpanzee that likes bright colors, but these things need fixing IMMEDIATELY before any other work is done. So dearest Jagex – before you work on your next update (most likely another bad attempt to copy WOW) prioritize for once… PLEASE FIX.

If you could release a castlewars update THREE DAYS EARLY then I don’t see why you can’t fix some graphical glitches on your way. You were very fast when the Runecrafting bug came out with Dungeoneering, is this not serious enough for you? Player owned houses hurt people’s eyes. They refuse to enter their runescape house because it is literally hard to look at. I call that a serious issue.

If this post doesn’t get through I don’t know what in the blue hell will. Aspects of the game I’ve loved playing for the past 5 years are being “fixed” when they incidentally don’t need any fixing. I’ll keep my fire cape, thanks.

That’s just my frustrations about things lately – I don’t know about you, but I just felt like this needed to be put out there. Thanks for giving it a read :)

On a side note; I achieved 2k total last week! WOOO!

Dear Dungeoneering: I don’t give a damn

Before you judge me by reading the title, hear me out. I am not exactly too low of a level of Dungeoneering to be saying negative things about the skill without proof. I have tried the skill, and maybe I spent too long training it while it was still fresh – but it has become stale already once I found out that it was one of the most repetitive skills in the book! You get to your highest floor – reset your progress and away you go!

I seriously cannot even fathom how anyone could get Dungeoneering up to a level over 90 in such little time without getting bored, it does have an excitement element to it; but it was definitely short of everyone’s expectations.

Boss Fighting - Dungeoneering in Runescape

What really bothers me about this skill is that Jagex specifically told us that they wouldn’t release the skill until it was complete to a level that they would be happy with, but released “only 10%” of the skill with the release of Dungeoneering 1.0. It’s a terrible shame to see that Jagex possibly gave in to all the pressure presented to them and released the skill pretty much half baked. Not even.

In all honesty, I really did enjoy Dungeoneering when it first came out, because it was fresh content and there was so much to explore – but now that everything has been revealed, I just can’t wait for Dungeoneering to be expanded so I can get over this stale stage that’s going on.

Dungeoneering 2.0 needs to be something special – they need to take their time with this one and release a good 2-3 new dungeons to explore with a lot more Bosses and monsters, rewards, training tactics and the likes. Dungeoneering is far from what I expected and I’m sure it’s far from what anybody else would have expected as well.

Another boss in Dungeoneering (Runescape HD)

One problem that I’ve noticed which now turns me off doing the skill is that when soloing, you aren’t allowed to leave the dungeon (ie. lag out) without having to restart the dungeon again – regardless of how much time or effort you put into that specific level. I don’t like that one bit and that should have been fixed a long time ago. Actually, that shouldn’t have even been a problem at all.

The teamwork aspect is great with Dungeoneering, but how hard is it to find someone who’s willing to do a floor with you? Didn’t Jagex consider this when they were making soloing so difficult and isolated? You could tell that things were designed to allow for soloing – so why can’t we rejoin our own games when we’ve unfairly been lagged out?

I know that Jagex personally experimented with leaving the max level to 120 to see how it works, and I can safely say that I will never… EVER get 100+ million experience in that sad excuse for a skill. If it was a minigame I wouldn’t play it either, I’d rather be in Stealing Creation, that’s more fun. ’nuff said.

Plain and simple, I don’t care about you, Dungeoneering. So for now, you’ll be trained with penguin points.

If you’ve got an idea or a general question, etc, please comment.
